The Syrian Coalition said the safety of thousands of internally displaced persons in Syria’s coastal areas is threatened in light of recent attacks on their camps by pro-regime militias.
Pro-regime militias on Tuesday attacked Alkarnak IDPs camp in Tartous province with live fire. A number of IDPs were killed or injured when paramilitary militants, known as shabeeha, opened fire randomly on the camp.
The Coalition also renewed condemnation of any violation of human rights anywhere in Syria, stressing its rejection of the crimes committed by ISIS against civilians. It warned of attempts by the Assad regime to commit more crimes under the pretext of fighting ISIS.
The Coalition pointed out that revenge and terror attacks have always been the modus operandi of terrorist groups and the dictatorial regimes that practice state terrorism in order to further intimidate the people and force them into submission. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
