The Syrian Coalition condemned attacks on demonstrations that took place in rural Idlib on Friday. The locals were demonstrating to reaffirm their commitment to the principles of the revolution and the overthrow of the Assad regime.
“Regardless of who was responsible for these attacks, this kind of behavior against peaceful demonstrators is reminiscent of the Assad regime’s violent repression of its opponents,” the Syrian Coalition said in a statement released today.
“The Syrian people revolted in March 2011 to demand freedom and dignity and have since defied all forms of oppression. Having now made huge sacrifices, no-one can stop the Syrian people from seeking to reclaim their basic rights,” the Syrian Coalition added.
The statement stressed that “the demonstrations held over the past few days sent a clear message represented by raising the flag of the revolution across Syria. Raising only the revolution’s flag, the Syrian people have reaffirmed commitment to their legitimate demands and their firm belief in this flag as a symbol for freedom and salvation from all forms of injustice and tyranny.”
The Syrian Coalition reasserted that the Syrian people will resist attempts by anyone who tries to silence their demands for freedom, justice and dignity. The Coalition said there is a lesson to be learned from the way the Syrian people rose up bravely against the tyranny of the Assad regime and its allies to gain freedom and dignity. Those who try to silence the Syrian people should learn that lesson. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
