The Syrian Coalition stressed, in a statement issued today, that “serious, unprecedented and brutal violations are exercised daily against hundreds of Syrian families in the Arab and foreign countries.” The Syrian Coalition added that these acts are “a clear violation of international humanitarian law, at a time when the Assad regime still seeks to exacerbate the humanitarian crisis to spread its effects into other countries in the region in order to achieve some mean political gains.” Furthermore, the Coalition expresses their great sorrow regarding the “maltreatment of displaced Syrians in some countries, such as blackmail, arrest, torture and deportation.” The Syrian Coalition was also shocked at reports that “reveal the cases of systematic expulsion of Syrian refugees applied by the Greek authorities within its land and sea borders,” and called on the Greek government “to stop arbitrary practices against refugees.” The Syrian Coalition also appealed to the European Union to take “the necessary measures to protect displaced Syrians and their families by all possible legal and diplomatic means until they have the chance to return to their homes.” On the other hand, the Syrian Coalition expresses its appreciation for international efforts in general, and regional efforts in particular, aimed at the absorption of displaced Syrians, and securing decent living conditions for them.” For his part, Badraldin Jamous, the Syrian Coalition’s Secretary General, condemned Greece’s violations and maltreatment of Syrian refugees who were forced to seek refuge in Greece in an effort to escape from the horror of massacres being committed against the people in Syria by the Assad Regime. He also criticized Greek authorities and the Border Patrol for the expulsion of boats loaded with refugees from the Greek beaches even though the boats contained women and children and were doomed to sink.
