The Syrian Coalition has begun a series of training courses aimed at qualifying a number of women in East Ghouta to give psychological support to traumatized children. Mohamed Khair al-Wazir, member of the Syrian Coalition and responsible for the offices of the Syrian Coalition inside Syria, said that “in light of the exceptional circumstances experienced by the residents of East Ghouta and the various negative effects caused by the Assad regime’s ongoing military operations, most notably the negative psychological effects on children, a need has risen to provide traumatized children with psychiatric and psychological support. However, the lack of specialized and qualified women hampered the launch of the rehabilitation programs. It was necessary, therefore, to conduct training courses for women to provide psychosocial support for children. A training course entitled “Techniques of Cooperation with the Children’s Behavior” has been launched in order to qualify female cadres to work in the field of psychological support through familiarizing the trainees with the most important methods of dealing with the children’s negative behavior and strengthen their positive one.” It is worth noting that the training courses are being carried out by the Ghouta Center for Rehabilitation and Training. Al Wazir also said that “Mamoun Orabi, an expert in psychological support, has overseen the training courses,” stressing that the trainees where selected according to specific criteria such as the need to have certificates in the field of psychotherapy so that applicants for the training courses complement their experiences with practical lessons during the treatment of the traumatized children.
