Search-Secretary-General Mohammed Yahya Maktabi and member of the political committee Khatib Badlah met with Norwegian Foreign Relations official Fijid Elvis and Norway’s former ambassador to Damascus Civic Sevgi in Istanbul yesterday. The meeting discussed the findings of the International Syrian Support Group’s meetings in Vienna and the Syrian Coalition’s attitude towards political settlement.
Maktabi and Badlah stress the importance of the Vienna meetings as they brought together all international parties to find a political solution in Syria. They also stressed the Syrian Coalition’s support for a political transition process in accordance with the Geneva Communique leading to the departure of Assad and his ruling elite and take Syria towards democracy and the rule of law.
In a telephone conversation with President Khoja on Monday, US Secretary of State John Kerry reaffirmed the US’s and the Friends of the Syrian People Group’s continued consultation with the Syrian Coalition to initiate a constructive political process in Syria and to force the Assad regime to abide by the Geneva Communique. Of particular importance is forcing Assad to stop the use of barrel bombs and indiscriminate bombardment of civilians as wells as achieving a complete cease-fire. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
