The Syrian National Coalition’s Communities Office and heads of the Syrian communities councils in Romania, the United States, Qatar and Italy discussed the latest field and political developments in Syria and preparations to participate in the work of the Constitutional Committee at the UN Office in Geneva.
The discussion, which was held via video link, brought together the Coalition Vice-president Dima Moussa, Director of the Coalition’s Department of Foreign Relations Abdel Ahad Steifo, Secretary of the Coalition’s political committee Riad Al-Hassan, members of the political body Badr Jamous, Yasser Al-Farhan and Bahjat Atassi, and Coordinator of the Communities Office Yahya Maktabi.
Members of the Coalition praised the effective role being played by the communities councils in pressuring the governments of the host countries to take positive positions in favor of the cause of the Syrian people. They stressed the importance of their role in the current stage and in the future stage of building Syria in view of the influence, expertise these communities have.
The participants stressed the need for cooperativeness and partnership between the communities councils and the Coalition, especially in the next phase containing serious challenges that will shape the future of the country.
Members of the Coalition reviewed the final preparations to participate in the work of the Constitutional Committee. They stressed that the political process cannot be reduced to the Constitutional Committee which they described as an opportunity and a gateway to revitalize the political process which the Assad regime has obstructed over the past several years.
The meeting touched on the importance of activating the Syrian Interim Government and the prospects for its work in the liberated areas as well as the difficulties and challenges facing it.
