Vice-President of the Syrian Coalition Hisham Marwa said that the announcement of the start of the US-Turkish train and equip program for the FSA is a step that can be utilized in the development of the FSA’s capabilities, especially since this program comes in the context of preparing qualified fighters to defend the Syrian people against the terrorism of the Assad regime and ISIS.
Marwa points out that in parallel with this move, recognizing the Assad regime must be withdrawn due to lost legitimacy after the crimes it committed against the Syrian people. He calls for supporting efforts leading to a full political transition to end bloodshed and opening the door for reconstruction and achieving the aspirations of all Syrians.
He pointed to remarks made earlier by Turkish Foreign Minister that the train-and-equip program aims to achieve a political transformation in the war-torn country on the basis of the Geneva Communiqué and to empower Syria’s rebels to fight all elements that pose a threat to the Syrian people.
