Secretary-General of the Syrian Coalition Mohammed Yahya Maktabi welcomes the merger of two major rebel groups, Ahrar al-Sham and Suqur al-Sham into a new formation and also the announcement of 12 rebel factions in rural Idlib and rural Hama they they have joined the Al Sham Front to become the largest conglomerate FSA battalions in the area.
Maktabi calls on other rebel factions to follow suit and to adhere to the slogan of the Syrian Revolution, stressing the need to unify and coordinate the military efforts as a first step towards the creation of a national army for all the Syrians whose main objectives is deposing the Assad regime, the protection of the Syrian people, preserve their unity, the liberation of the rest of the Syrian territory, and the expulsion of sectarian militias fighting alongside the Assad regime.
Hashim al-Sheikh (aka Abu Jaber), commander of Ahrar al-Sham, said that the merger came in response to the need for unity and coordination and to coincide with the fourth anniversary of the Syrian revolution.
He said that “we are determined to continue with the revolution until we overthrow the Assad regime,” stressing rejection of bargaining on the blood of the fallen heroes. He calls upon other rebel factions to unite and coordinate with each other to achieve the goals of the revolution and put an end to injustice done to the Syrian people. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
