The Syrian Coalition’s political committee discussed the developments on the ground in Aleppo as well as the political and military dimension of the offensive by rebel and FSA groups to break the siege on the city.
At a meeting held in Istanbul on Thursday, the political committee hailed the heroic battle rebel and FSA fighters waged against regime forces and allied foreign militias in Aleppo. It stressed the need for unity both politically and militarily to defend the Syrian people against the Assad regime’s and Russia’s brutal attacks.
The committee decided to set up a permanent crisis cell to follow up on the situation on the ground in Aleppo. The meeting also discussed consultations between the Coalition and the rebel and FSA groups involved in the offensive in Aleppo. The Coalition praised the unity shown by rebel and FSA groups in Aleppo, calling on all rebel and FSA groups in northern Syria to join the battle for Aleppo as the situation in Aleppo will have a significant impact on the political process.
The committee also reviewed contacts made by the Coalition’s President Anas Alabdah with the foreign ministers of a number of Arab and friendly countries to secure more support for the rebel and FSA fighters in Aleppo.
Moreover, the committee discussed the outcome of the meeting held between Alabdah and General Coordinator of the opposition’s High Negotiations Committee (HNC) Riad Hijab on one side and representatives of rebel and FSA groups on the other. It also reviewed the outcome of the recent meeting between Alabdah, Hjab and the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
