Syrian Coalition Mocks Syrian Elections as Parody of Democracy

Mohamed Khair Banco, member of the political committee, said that the presidential elections in Syria will be the last nail in the coffin of a political solution and will jeopardize all efforts to end the bloodshed. “These elections are parody of democracy, and the lack of an appropriate response from the international community means it emboldens Assad to escalate his state terrorism, not only in Syria, but in the whole region. The Assad regime has became a magnet that attracts all the extremist elements in the world to use them to kill Syrians, most notably Hezbollah’s and Iraqi militias. The Assad regime is still giving support to ISIS, which was created to tarnish the image of the revolution.” Banco also denounces the negative attitude of the international community towards the Syrian Revolution, pointing out that it “manages the crisis, but has never looked for ways to solve it. When Assad forces gassed hundreds of Syrians last August, we expected the international community to take measures against the Assad regime. However, the Assad regime managed to dodge punitive strikes by giving unfulfilled promises. The Syrian people rose up against tyranny and dictatorship, not against chemical weapons. The international community must reconsider its policy towards the Syrian Revolution and assume its moral duties, as chemical weapons are not the the only weapon that kill the Syrian people.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
