Salem al-Meslet, spokesman for the Syrian Coalition, said that “we have not yet formed the delegation which will represent the Syrian Coalition at the upcoming Cairo meeting,” pointing out that “our main focus now is on laying out the principles of dialogue with other opposition blocs that will be present at the meeting.” Meslet points to the need for consulting with other opposition blocs as part of the Syrian Coalition’s policy of openness to and cooperation with all trends of the Syrian national opposition that share the same vision and work for the same goals. “The goal these consultations is outlining a unified position for all Syrian opposition components in order to serve the Syrian revolution and achieve a transitional process that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people,” he stresses. Moreover, Meslet points to the need for unity in the face of Assad’s murderous regime and for laying out specific and clear framework for negotiations with the Assad regime, most importantly is excluding Assad and his inner circle from any transitional as well as ensuring that the transitional process is based on the Geneva I communique adopted by the UN Security Council resolution No. 2118 of 2013.
