The Syrian Coalition reiterates that any political solution in Syria must conform to the Geneva Communiqué and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, stressing that Bashar al-Assad must not be permitted to have a role in any stage of political settlement.
The Syrian Coalition’s statements coincides with a meeting of foreign ministers of the United States, Russia, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia in Vienna to look for a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
Vice-president Hisham Marwa states that Russia’s attempts to allude that a number of friendly countries have changed their positions to accept giving Assad a role to play in the transitional process are untrue. Marwa also cites remarks by Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir who stresses that rooting out ISIS requires the removal of Assad from power.
Marwa adds that Russia is trying to re-involve Assad claiming that the Syrian people choose their president, however, Syrians will not accept this criminal whatsoever for his involvement in killing over 350,000 people.
Secretary of the political committee Anas al-Abda said that “we will not accept the survival of Bashar al-Assad for a single day in the transitional phase,” stressing the need to find a political solution acceptable to the Syrian people in accordance with the Geneva I Communique.
Abdah points out that the Syrian people will not forget the crimes committed by the Assad regime against children and women for nearly five years. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
