The Syrian National Coalition welcomed the temporary suspension of military operations reached on Thursday (17 October) by the United States and Turkey.
In a press release issued on Friday, the Coalition said that the agreement “represents a success for Operation Peace Spring which was launched with the aim of protecting the territorial integrity of Syria; ousting terrorist organizations and militias; and allowing the displaced people to return to their homes.”
“The success of the operation stems from the fact that it has achieved its goals of establishing a safe zone in record time. The Turkish-US agreement will help achieve these goals with minimal losses,” the Coalition said.
The Coalition went on to say that the operation proved serious in implementing the safe zone project after we tried to resolve this situation by all possible means.
“War was never our goal. The operation came as a natural result of the abnormal situation that emerged in this region and the numerous violations documented by multiple international human rights organizations.”
The Coalition added: “Terrorism had to be confronted and defeated so as to maintain the territorial integrity of Syria and eliminate the threat of partitioning the country after the international community failed to ensure so.”
The Coalition noted the important, positive role of the United States and Turkey in reaching this agreement.
“The Syrian National Army will remain fully alert and ready to defend the territorial integrity of Syria and respond to any breaches of the agreement.” (Source: Syrian National Coalition’s Media Department)
