Syrian Coalition & SIG Stress Revolution’s Ability to Manage the Country as they Tour Liberated Areas

President of the Syrian Coalition, Anas al-Abda and Head-designate of the Syrian Interim Government Abdurrahman Mustafa on Thursday held a press conference to talk about their plan of action for the next stage. They stressed that they would work hard to correct the mistakes and develop the institutions of the revolution to be able to take on “the management of the state.”

Three days after they were elected to a new one-year term, the presidential body, comprising the president of the Syrian Coalition, his deputies and the secretary-general as well as SIG’s head-designate, began working from inside the Syrian territory. They visited a number of institutions in northern rural Aleppo to check on their work and look into ways to develop their performance.

President Al-Abda stressed the importance of consatnt work to match the level of the sacrifices of the Syrian people. “We are fully aware of the responsibility we have taken on.”

President Al-Abda added: “We have to work day and night so that the Coalition will be the institution that expresses the values and goals of our great revolution and which represents the aspirations of our people.”

“We have developed clear programs and plans of action,” President Al-Abda said, adding: “our top priority is to ensure the success of the Syrian Interim Government as our rebel fighters are capable of managing the country.”

President Al-Abda emphasized that “the Assad regime has collapsed under the blows of our heroes. We firmly reject any defeatist speech and acquiescence under the so-called “political realism.”

“The Assad regime has been defeated once and for all. Now it is in the process of economic, social and security meltdown after it was defeated militarily and lost its legitimacy. We will work to improve the political performance of the opposition to reflect this fact.”

Moreover, President Al-Abdah slammed the incitement of hatred against the Syrian refugees in Lebanon, stressing that this speech “does not fit with the image of Lebanon as country of freedom and culture or the special relationship between the Syrian and Lebanese peoples.”

For his part, SIG’s Head-designate Abdurrahman Mustafa stressed that “we are on the threshold of a new stage that needs development and construction.”

He said that “we seek to make the government that we intend to form a step towards the establishment of an effective governance that works in an institutional manner under a good government that carries out its duties devotedly and professionally.”

Mustafa pointed out that the SIG will focus primarily on ensuring security, stability and the provision of services. “In parallel, there are a set of tasks that I’m working on tackling. They are a contingency plan for the administration of east of the Euphrates after the region has been cleared of the terrorist PYD militia by the Syrian National Army and with the support of our Turkish brothers.”

“I believe that the coordination of work, constructive communication, exchange of expertise, and confidence-building are some of the most important elements of the work necessary to manage the liberated areas during the coming period and perform the tasks and beat the challenges,” Mustafa added. Preserving independence and national sovereignty and maintaining the Syrian people's unity within the same Syrian soil is one of the critical pillars of the Syrian Coalition. The Coalition aims to overthrow the Assad regime along with all its symbols and pillars. It also aims to dismantle its security apparatus and hold accountable those involved in crimes against Syrians. In addition, it seeks to achieve a transition to a pluralistic, democratic and civil Syria.
