The Syrian Coalition presented today during the morning session at Geneva II its principal vision for the political settlement, which calls for the formation of a transitional governing body and sets the stage for re-building Syria on the basis of citizenship. The session began with the Coalition proposing a settlement entitled “Basic Principles of the Political Settlement at Geneva II.” The delegation of the Syrian Coalition stressed that the goal of Geneva II is the formation of a transitional governing body and the initiating of political transition in Syria as the sole guarantor for making peace in Syria. The transitional governing body will be responsible for achieving transitional justice, holding accountable perpetrators of crimes against the Syrian people, preserving the state institutions after restructuring them, rebuilding the Syrian economy on the basis of equal opportunity, the formation of a constituent assembly to draft a new constitution and holding free and democratic elections.
