Khatib Badla, member of the political committee, said that the Syrian Coalition supports the set of principles that participants in the tenth meeting of Saydet al-Jabal are seeking to achieve, which in turn intends to establish a trans-secular bloc to protect the social fabric in Lebanon. “The underpinnings of this bloc is capable of protecting the cultural cohesion of any civilized society. The bloc’s adoption of the principle of non-selectiveness in designating terrorist groups indicates a real awareness of the source of terrorism. Moreover, the spreading of such ideas aimed at protecting the social fabric of the Lebanese society, which is being threatened by the behavior of Hezbollah, has become a pressing need now.” Badla also said that the” trans-secular bloc’s affirmation that terrorism threatens everyone, and is not necessarily limited to minority-groups only, reflects the political and social awareness of those in charge of the establishment of this bloc. Furthermore, the bloc’s affirmation that the protection of Christians cannot be achieved through a coalition of minorities indicates sound judgment in dealing with the reality of the diverse Lebanese society, and also a positive step towards laying the proper foundations of democracy in the region.
