President Jarba said, during a meeting with John Kerry, that “we seek to establish a civil, pluralistic and democratic state in Syria.” Kerry stressed his country’s commitment to provide assistance to the Syrian Coalition. Jarba said that the Syrian Coalition is “looking forward to assistance from the United States to establish a civil, pluralistic, and democratic state where the majority co-live with minorities,” during a press conference with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry. Jarba had said at the start of his first official visit to the United States that “military balance on the ground needs to change to create the conditions for a political solution,” adding that “the rebels need arms to counter Assad’s air force that is raining barrel bombs on civilians all across Syria. The survival of Assad in power eliminates all chances of reaching a political solution.” Kerry said that “the United States is committed to providing all assistance to the Syrian Coalition and the Free Syrian Army to meet the aspirations of the Syrian people.” Jane Bsaki, spokeswoman for the U.S. State Department, said earlier that her country would continue giving support for the Syrian Coalition.
