The Syrian Coalition’s foreign mission to Norway sent a letter earlier today to the Norwegian Foreign Ministry urging the Norwegian government to work internationally to lift the siege on Madaya and urgently send relief aid to the civilians trapped inside. The letter described the humanitarian disaster unfolding in Madaya in Rural Damascus as a result of the siege imposed by the Assad regime and Hezbollah militias.
The letter referred to the terrifying reports emerging from the town of Madaya which spoke of a humanitarian disaster as a result of the blockade, now in its seventh month. It added that dozens of children, women and the elderly have died because of the severe shortages of food and medical supplies.
The Syrian Coalition expressed alarm over the grave situation in Madaya where the lives of nearly 40,000 civilians are in real danger of starvation. It emphasized that the continued silence over this situation will further contribute the deterioration of living conditions of civilians.
The Syrian Coalition expressed hope that the Norwegian government would shoulder its responsibilities and live up to its principles in support of human rights and that it would condemn such collective punishment against the residents of Madaya. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
