Member of the Syrian Coalition’s political committee Okab Yahya called upon the United Nations to expedite the implementation of the truce proposed by the UN special envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura. Yahya stressed that the truce must cover all Syria, not only Aleppo province.
The Assad regime and its allies have recently escalated attacks against rebel-held areas in many parts of Syria.
The Assad regime continues to ignore humanitarian provisions contained in the UN Security Council resolution 2254 regarding lifting the sieges, allowing the delivery of humanitarian aid to all civilians in need, stopping the bombardment of civilian areas, and releasing detainees.
The most violent regime attacks over the past few days have targeted the district of Daraya west of Damascus. Activists said that the Assad regime air force on Sunday dropped many barrel bombs, some filled with the internationally banned napalm, on the rebel-held district.
Regime forces shelled the district of Alwaer in Homs with a barrage of artillery and rockets on Sunday, with reports of civilian casualties. The two districts have been subjected to a suffocating siege by regime forces for over three years.
Yahya called upon the United Nations to shoulder its responsibilities to protect civilians from the terrorist attacks carried out by the Assad regime and its allies, rejecting local and temporary truces. He also called on the UN to immediately stop the crimes of the Assad regime and Russia against civilians in Syria. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
