Member of the Syrian Coalition’s political committee Yasser al-Farhan called upon the UN Security Council to urgently intervene in order to deter the Assad regime’s continued breaches of the “cessation of hostilities” agreement.
The Assad regime’s warplanes continue to violate the ceasefire by targeting civilians and vital centers, committing horrible massacres against civilians. The latest of these massacres took place in eastern Ghouta on Thursday and claimed the lives of at least 30 civilians.
Farhan said that the Assad regime is deliberately targeting peaceful demonstrations that have recently swept across Syria to demand the downfall of the regime, accountability for war crimes, and transitioning the country from tyranny and terrorism to freedom and democracy.
The Assad regime’s air force earlier today conducted over 100 airstrikes across Syria and hit rebel-held areas with dozens of barrel bombs. The most violent of these attacks took place in the provinces of Damascus, Aleppo, Idlib and Hama, causing massive destruction.
Despite the intense aerial bombardment, dozens of anti-regime demonstrations took to the streets across Syria. Protestors demanded the release of detainees and the lifting of blockades on besieged areas. They also emphasized Syria’s territorial integrity and the unity of its people, voicing strong rejection of any projects aimed at dividing the country.
