Khalid Saleh, head of the Media Office, warns of an imminent massacre against civilians in the town of Ayn al-Arab (Kobanî) after reports of ISIS’s advance on the town. “We call upon the international community to take urgent measures to protect all civilians in light of the rapid progress made by ISIS militants in the area.” Activists said that 21 villages surrounding Ayn al-Arab (Kobanî) northeast of Aleppo fell to ISIS militants, who deployed tanks and heavy artillery to capture these town and reportedly killed a number of civilians in the area. Hundreds of civilians were forced to flee to neigh outing villages amid fears massacres if ISIS takes the predominantly Kurdish town. Saleh also calls for “accelerating the train and equip program for the Free Syrian Army especially after the proposal was approved by the US Congress, stressing that the plan needs to be expanded to include delivering advanced weapons to repel ISIS attacks on civilians.
