The Syrian National Coalition confirmed in a statement issued today its commitment to full cooperation with the leadership of the FSA’s General Staff and its rejection of sacrilege of “places of worship and religious figures.” Furthermore, the Syrian Coalition said that the Free Syrian Army attacked regime forces stationed in barracks at the entrance to the city Maloula, and that rockets were fired from this barracks on the city. Regime forces, backed by sectarian militias, retaliated by random shelling on Maloula. The Syrian Coalition and the General Staff deny any FSA involvement in mistreatment of the Sisters of the Monastery of Saint Takla, and confirmed they are keen on researching into the case to ensure safety of the nuns away from Assad’s atrocities. The Syrian Coalition states that “the FSA intercepted a radio communication between Assad’s gangs and Hezbollah’s militia, which confirms their involvement in direct and intentional bombing of places of worship in Maloula.” The intercepted communication is going to be will be published to the media very soon. The Syrian Coalition pointed to the dire humanitarian situation in Kalamoon, and to the displacement of more than 8,000 people over the last two days to eastern Lebanon, including 1,000 children, as a result of the intensive firepower used by regime forces amid the world’s inaction towards Assad regime repeated breach of the international law.
