Secretary-General of the Syrian Coalition Mohammed Yahya Maktabi welcomes “the cooperation of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to host a conference of the Syrian opposition in Riyadh. The announcement about the meeting was made on Tuesday during the final statement of the Gulf Cooperation Council summit held in Riyadh.
Maktabi highly commends the GCC’s support for the Syrian revolution, stressing the vital role of the Council, most importantly Saudi Arabia, in supporting the Syrian people until they achieve their demands for freedom and dignity. He also stresses the Council’s role in bringing about a transitional process in post-Assad Syria and contributing to the rebuilding of Syria.
He reiterates the Syrian Coalition’s commitment to a political solution and resumption of negotiations, stressing the Syrian revolution’s priorities in toppling the Assad regime and ruling elite in any negotiations or initiatives. The Syrian Coalition is however convinced that that the Assad regime is still insisting on a military solution and evades agreeing on international initiatives to gain more time and suppress the revolution.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
