Khaled Nasser, member of the political committee, welcomes the reports that talked about discussions by the U.S. administration and its allies to impose a no-fly zone over parts of Syria, stressing that “the Syrian Coalition had already put forward a plan and presented it to the of Friends of Syria group to create safe havens in Syria as this would allow the institutions of the Syrian Coalition and the interim government to move to Syria. The Syrian Coalition discussed the requirements of creating these safe havens, and we see it as a positive step as it provides a partial solution to the problem of Syrian refugees who we hope many will be able to move to these safe areas.” Nasser also said that Turkey, the country that raised this subject, would benefit from it in view of the security breaches of its porous border with Syria and also with the increasing influx of Syrian refugees. Raising the subject of the no-fly zone in parallel with the formation of a coalition to fight ISIS clearly indicates that the Assad regime would not be a partner in the fight against of terrorism.” Nasser concluded his remarks stressing that forcing a no-fly zone over Syria would save the lives of thousands of Syrians who are being systematically targeted by barrel bombs and aerial shelling in an attempt to quell the popular uprising.
