The Syrian Coalition welcomes the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2139, demanding aid access into Syria. “The resolution constitutes the first step towards addressing the dire humanitarian needs of the Syrian people. The focus of the international community must shift now to ensure the immediate and full implementation of the resolution. The Security Council must be ready to take further steps if the Assad regime fails to fulfill its obligations rapidly,” the Syrian Coalition stresses. The SC also said that “the international community were able to come together to address the overwhelming humanitarian need in Syria. It can build on today’s achievement to put pressure on the Assad regime to acknowledge the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people of freedom and democracy. Louay Safi, spokesman for the Syrian Coalition, said that that the unanimous UN Security Council resolution is “a clear message from the Security Council to the Assad regime, who as usual seeks to thwart its implementation. Further measures need to be taken to ensure unhindered access to all Syrians in the besieged cities and towns.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
