A delegation from the Syrian Negotiations Commission, led by the Commission’s President, Badr Jamous, met with the United Nations Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, on Thursday. The discussion focused on the implementation of the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolutions 2118 and 2254.
The two sides deliberated on the recent developments in the political process. The Commission’s delegation highlighted the ongoing danger posed by the Assad regime’s obstruction of the political process, urging the United Nations to fulfill its responsibilities in addressing the ongoing tragedy in Syria.
Jamous conveyed to the United Nations envoy the imperative of returning to the Security Council to implement UN Resolution 2254 and holding the regime accountable for the deteriorating situation in Syria across all levels. He underscored that issues such as refugees, poverty, corruption, terrorism, and chaos cannot be resolved without reaching a just solution based on international legitimacy and UN resolutions concerning Syria.
