The Syrian Women’s Authority, in partnership with the Stabilization Support Unit, continues its activities and training sessions aimed at supporting and strengthening the role of Syrian women. It organized a group discussion under the title “National Identity in the Social Contract” with the participation of Syrian women active in political affairs and civil society.
The seminar discussed the reality of the Syrian national identity before the revolution, and how the Assad regime consolidated a state of dispersion and fragmentation to prevent the formation of any phenomenon that enhances the Syrian national identity.
The discussions also touched on the reality of the Syrians inside and outside Syria, the difficulties they face, and how to benefit from the diversity of the Syrian society. They also discussed ways to utilize this diversity to enrich the Syrian national identity, which will be the basic building block in building state of justice and law.
The participants emphasized that democracy is the biggest guarantor of national identity, as it upholds the principles of justice, equality, non-discrimination, equal opportunities, basic rights and the rule of law. They also stressed that the concept of identity today is based only on recognizing our differences and respecting our diversity.
They also stressed the important role that the forces of the revolution, the opposition and society must play and the steps to consolidate an inclusive Syrian identity. They also emphasized the importance of the role of women in its formulation to achieve justice and civil peace.
