Members of the Syrian National Coalition elected Ahmad Toumah Al Khudur as President of the Interim Government despite opposition from the United States and Russia, who have both sought to form a transitional government in Geneva, according to an informed source. In a statement to the Media Office of the Coalition with Toumah, he said “that the government will be composed of 12 ministries that will develop a strategic plan for the management of the new phase , and will work on the ground to support the efforts of the Chief of Staff to organize and develop a national military, they will also support and organize humanitarian work in order to ensure that the aid reaches the intended recipients , and laying the foundations for building effective national institutions and seek to establish security and the extension of national sovereignty and the protection of public and private money and re-launch the economic wheel and investment of national resources to serve Syrian human progress and prosperity . ” Dr. Toumah, in charge of the formation of the interim government announce that will take advantage of previous projects prepared by the charge of the former head of the government of Mr. Ghassan Hitto. He stressed that his government will seek through its offices inside Syrian territory to manage and meet the needs of citizens in cooperation with the local councils and the Free Syrian Army. Toumah pointed out that although the government is funded by friendly countries and others supporting the Syrian revolutionary movement, the priority is the pursuit of self-sufficiency based on economic investment for native natural resources and wealth of the country. In an exclusive statement to the Media Office of the Coalition, General Assembly member of the Syrian National Council Abdul Rahman Al –Haj said on the importance of the role of the national interim government is “to disarm any legitimacy for any group seeking to form a state or a feudal for themselves,” noting that “they will try to benefit from the service and political destruction” in some of the Syrian territory. “They will oppose the establishment of the government.” Haj felt that “the formation of the government would allow the Free Syrian Army to consolidate its power.”
On another note a member of the political committee of the Syrian National Coalition, Anas Al Abdeh, said that nothing has happened yet in reference to the Kurdish bloc joining the National Council, stressing that any political decision in this regard would be “within the framework of the unity of Syrian people and their country.” He pointed out that “the approval of any of the demands of the Kurdish bloc will be proposed for authentication in the first parliament after the fall of the Syrian regime.” Abdeh noted that the joining of the Kurdish National Council as a political party strengthens the National Coalition which represens all political spectrums of the Syrian people.
On the other hand, a member of the Legal Committee of the National Coalition confirmed in an exclusive statement to the Media Office of the Syrian National Coalition ” that there are reservations on some of the demands stipulated in the documents provided by the Kurdish National Council that need to be approved by the members of the General Assembly for the Kurdish National Council to join. It was noted that the General Assembly and agreed to the first 14 items and were still not sure about the last two items until now. “
The Syrian National Coalition called on the international community in its meetings to ban the regime for using its Air Force, ballistic missiles and heavy weapons against Syrian civilians. This comes after a Russian agreement on the prohibition of the use of chemical weapons which led to the loss of the lives of more than 1,400 Syrian civilians. The Russian proposals was described by the Syrian National Coalition to “encourage the regime to continue aggressive behavior inside Syria , and give the regime the political space it needs to step up its military campaign , in addition to support political maneuvers, gain time at the expense of the blood of the Syrians. Therefore, the Coalition sees that this this offer needs to be dealt with according to Part VII of the Charter of the United Nations to prevent evasion by the regime and force it to join the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use of Chemical Weapons in Armed Conflicts and Wars. ” The Coalition called on Arab States and the Friends of Syria group to strengthen the capacity of the Free Syrian Army ” to be able to neutralize the regime Air Force and tanks, force the regime to end its military campaign and accept a political solution leading to a democratic transition in Syria,” according to the statement.
