The Response Coordinators Team in Syria has reported the displacement of more than 8,735 households in the past 24 hours, as they move toward areas presumed to be safer. This marks the largest wave of displacement in five years amid ongoing military escalation by Assad regime forces and Russian air forces, targeting residential areas and infrastructure in blatant disregard for international and humanitarian laws.
The team highlighted the dire conditions displaced households face, with nearly no access to proper shelter. Many are forced to seek refuge in open fields or farmlands, lacking basic necessities. This comes as winter sets in, exacerbating their suffering with plummeting temperatures and a lack of heating or winter supplies.
The areas receiving displaced people are witnessing severe overcrowding, with existing facilities unable to meet the growing demands for essential services.
The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) emphasized that the crimes committed by the Assad regime and its allies have caused massive waves of displacement, coinciding with the onset of winter.
The SOC condemned the bombings of residential areas, civilian facilities, and infrastructure in the liberated areas, which have forced thousands of households to flee. It urged the international community to take immediate action to halt these violations and hostilities and implement measures to stop such actions.
