The US envoy to Syria Michael Ratney expressed hope that the Syrian opposition will lay out a common vision for the future of Syria in the upcoming Riyadh conference and that a delegation will be formed to negotiate the transitional process.
At a meeting with members of the political committee on Friday, both sides discussed the upcoming Riyadh conference and the political process which was revived during the Vienna talks.
Members of the political committee said they wanted the Riyadh conference to be successful and to rally all spectra of the Syrian opposition around a common vision for Syria’s future in accordance with the Geneva Communique of 2012 and the UN Security Council 2118; both call for forming a transitional governing body with full executive powers leading to the departure of Assad.
