Member of the Syrian Coalition’s political committee Okab Yahya said that Syria’s Kurds have played an essential role in the revolution since it broke out in March 2011. He added that the Kurdish youth have been at the forefront of the anti-regime protests since the very beginning.
Yahya said the Assad regime is desperately attempting to co-opt the Kurds to stand on its side or at least to keep them out of the revolution. However, the vast majority of Syria’s Kurds rejected the regime’s persuasions and temptations, Yahya added.
Yahya stressed that the Kurds are key inherent component of the Syrian people, and will enjoy all their national rights in the new Syria like all other components Syrian people. He added that any statements from any side whatsoever against these facts do not serve the Syria’s national interest or the objectives of the Syrian revolution.
Yahya went on to say that the Syrian revolution demands freedom for all Syrians who have chanted “The Syrian people are one” since the outset of the revolution. He added that Syrians have pride in the national, cultural and religious diversity of the Syrian society, stressing that the new Syria will be free from all forms of tyranny and totalitarianism.
