Member of the Syrian Coalition’s political committee Okab Yahya said that the Brussels meeting with the National Coordination Commission has not changed the Coalition’s position on the inclusion of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) led by Salih Musallam into the opposition’s High Negotiations Committee (HNC). The Coalition strongly rejects any such move.
Yahya pointed out that the HNC seeks to achieve broader coordination and understanding across the opposition spectrum, adding that the EU has hosted the Brussels meeting with the aim of helping the Syrian opposition reach consensus on the future of the political process.
Yahya also said that the Brussels meeting discussed the transitional period and the political solution, adding that the Syrian Coalition will hold further consultations with all political opposition groups in order to promote cooperation and strengthen the negotiation position of the opposition in the Geneva talks.
Yahya denied that the Coalition made any concessions or that there is pressure on it to agree to the inclusion of the PYD and the “Moscow opposition” group into the HNC delegation.
