The Syrian Coalition renews condemnation of the Assad regime’s crimes, most recent of which took place during Eid al-Adha when 177 civilians, including 39 children and 12 women were killed in attacks on residential areas.
On the third day of Eid, Assad’s air force hit a children’s school in the neighborhood of Waer in Homs, killing 27 people, mostly women and children, while 19 more were killed in regime aerial shelling on the town of Taftanaz in rural Idlib.
In response to this escalation of attacks against civilians, the Syrian Coalition calls upon the UN Security Council to take urgent and effective action to stop the regime’s crimes, bring the perpetrators to justice, and to issue a binding resolution to stop the targeting of civilians.
The Syrian Coalition stresses that Assad, encouraged by Russia and Iran’s attempts to rehabilitee him, has recently escalated his atrocious crimes against the Syrian people.
“While such attempts will only worsen the ongoing attrition and will fail to rescue a regime that has long lost legitimacy to rule, they will lead to disastrous consequences for the Syrian people and on the track of political solution and the region.”
“And while we renew calls for reaching a just political solution, we reaffirm our commitment to the Geneva I Communique and the UN Security Council Resolution 2118. We call upon brothers and friends before others to reaffirm their commitment to support the Syrian people to restore freedom and dignity.” (Source: Syrian Coalition)
