The Secretary of the political committee of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Abdulbasit Abdullatif, emphasized that crimes committed by the Assad regime and its allies against civilians in liberated areas persist unabated. He stressed that their military attacks violate international law, targeting civilians rather than military targets.
In a press statement, Abdullatif noted that, as usual, the Assad regime and its partners avoid direct confrontations on the battlefield, instead directing their attacks against civilians, including women, children, and the elderly. Their assaults on vital infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, and homes aim to pressure opposition forces into halting liberation efforts.
Abdullatif warned that continued international inaction in addressing Assad’s crimes could have negative repercussions worldwide. He called for urgent measures to revive the political process, establishing mandatory mechanisms to compel the Assad regime’s participation under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, ensuring full and strict implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
According to Syrian TV, attacks by the Assad regime and Russia on Idlib, its countryside, and Aleppo’s countryside between November 27 and December 2 resulted in 81 civilian deaths, including 34 children, 12 women, and 35 men. Additionally, 304 individuals were injured, including 120 children, 78 women, and 106 men. The death toll excludes casualties in the city of Aleppo.
The attacks targeted residential areas, medical facilities, IDP camps, public markets, and places of worship, according to the Syrian Civil Defense.
