The Secretary-General of the political committee of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Abdelbaset Abdullatif, said that the city of Deir Ezzor urgently requires lots of assistance due to the extensive destruction it has endured from systematic bombardments by the Assad regime over the past 13 years.
In a press statement, Abdullatif said that Deir Ezzor, marginalized by the former regime, suffers from severe neglect and lacks even the most basic necessities for life, whether in terms of healthcare or living standards. He noted that only 3 out of 27 neighborhoods in the city are habitable, which hinders the return of refugees.
Abdullatif highlighted that Deir Ezzor is rich in water, oil, and agricultural resources, which can facilitate the reconstruction process. He called for urgent international assistance to save the city and invest in its infrastructure and commercial sectors.
