Online activists called for a general strike in the town of Manbij in eastern rural Aleppo in protest over the forced recruitment campaigns being carried out by the PYD terrorist militia in the region. The strike is due to enter into force on Thursday.
The activists called for protesting under the title “dignity strike”, to express the resentment and popular anger at the practices of the PYD militia in Manbij. The calls came in response to the PYD’s detention of dozens of young men in the town for recruitment in the ranks of the militia.
Local sources indicated that in the past few days, the PYD militia carried out mass arrests of young men at checkpoints scattered across the town, including the checkpoints of Al-Khattaf, Shuwaiha, Al-Matahin, Al-Hamam Market, Al-Adiyat School, Al-Yasti, Al-Shariya.
Last June, the village of Awn al-Dadat north of Manbij witnessed mass demonstrations against the PYD terrorist militia in protest against the poor services and the mass arrests of the young men for forced recruitment.
The Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC) called on the international community to immediately stop supporting the PYD terrorist militia and to hold accountable all those responsible for the ongoing violations against civilians, especially the youth and children.
