Member of the Syrian Opposition Coalition’s (SOC) General Assembly, Ayman Al-Asimi, said that the explosions of unexploded ordnance left behind by the Assad regime and its allied militias have so far killed and injured hundreds of people, especially children.
Al-Asimi said that the landmines planted by the Assad regime forces across Syria are claiming the lives of farmers while working in their lands, stressing the need to clear these lands of mines
The Syrian Civil Defense on Tuesday reported that a man was killed by a landmine explosion while harvesting his olive trees in the village of Majdalia in southern rural Idlib.
According to the Civil Defense, 27 people, including 13 children, have been killed and 29 others, including 20 children, have been injured in 29 explosions of remnants of war in northwestern Syria since the beginning of 2022.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights said that at least 29,894 children have been killed in Syria since March 2011, including 182 who were killed under torture, adding that at least 5,162 children are still detained or forcibly disappeared.
