Member of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Ayman Al-Asimi, strongly condemned the military escalation by the Assad regime and Russia on civilian areas in rural Aleppo and Idlib. He stressed that these crimes must have consequences through the implementation of UN Resolution 2254 and ensuring accountability.
Al-Asimi stressed that the continued international inaction in Syria will have new consequences on international peace and security, as happened in Ukraine. He added that the international community does not try to rectify its mistakes or even learn from them.
Al-Asimi condemned attempts by Russia and the Assad regime to exert pressure through military escalation before any round of talks, which has become well known and exposed to the whole world. He added that these talks have not achieved and will not achieve any results, stressing that the solution in Syria is still based on the implementation of UN resolutions, most importantly the Geneva Communique of 2012 and UN Resolutions 2118 and 2254.
The Syrian Civil Defense said that the Assad regime and Russian forces targeted the outskirts of the village of Ma’arblit in southern rural Idlib on Monday, injuring a man who was working in his farmland and causing a woman to have a nervous breakdown as a result of the artillery shelling.
Russian air strikes hit the de-escalation zones in northern Syria, targeting an area that host hundreds of thousands of displaced people. The displaced people are concerned about the potential expanding of attacks on these areas, especially in an area that includes hundreds of camps for the IDPs.
The Assad regime and Russian forces on Sunday shelled the village of Mantaf in southern rural Idlib as well as the village of Benin and the outskirts of Marzaf with heavy artillery, without reports of injuries.
