Secretary-General of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Haytham Rahmeh, condemned the continuous Russian violations against the liberated areas, adding that the renewed attacks on these areas are aimed at exert pressuring at the expense of innocent civilians. He said that before every round of talks, Russia intensifies its attacks on the liberated areas as the 19th round of Astana meetings will be held on Tuesday.
Rahmeh stressed that Russian air strikes targeted the border town of Babasqa, which represents yet a new, serious violation and reflects Russian’s intent to escalate its attacks. He pointed out that this escalation coincided with attacks by the PYD terrorist militia on the liberated areas and Turkish territory, which resulted in many civilian casualties. He made it clear that the objectives of these forces are one.
“No agreements or commitments made by Russia can be trusted. The bloody messages that it always sends represent its lack of belief in any political solution. Russia’s criminal approach have become clearer following its brutal invasion of Ukraine,” Rahmeh said.
Rahmeh will be among the delegation of the military forces of the revolution to the upcoming Astana meeting. He said that the continued crimes of the Assad regime and its allies, their continuous violations of the ceasefire, and the targeting of civilian areas and IDP camps will undermine all efforts to reach a political solution.
Moreover, Rahmeh warned of the Assad regime’s continued obstructionism of everything related to the political process, especially in the issue of detainees, and its violations of human rights, as hundreds of thousands of Syrians are still detained its prisons known as “human slaughterhouses” suffering various methods of brutal torture, which in many cases leads to death.
Rahmeh stressed the need to eliminate terrorism in Syria, which is represented primarily by the terrorism of the Assad regime and its allies, and the separatist militias collaborating with it.
