President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Hadi Al-Bahra, along with his accompanying delegation, received a comprehensive briefing on the workflow at the General Grains Foundation of the Syrian Interim Government in Azaz in the Aleppo countryside. During their visit, the delegation engaged with the management and workers, who offered detailed insights into the operations across the foundation’s three key departments: mills, bakeries, and storage. Officials responsible for the mills highlighted that the facility sources wheat through the Foundation, contributing to the daily production of 50 tons of flour, thus significantly fulfilling the needs of Azaz.
The delegation also inspected the Foundation-run bakery in Azaz, which produces 6,000 packs of bread weighing 1 kg daily. These are sold at a subsidized price to citizens. It is one of the five bakeries operated by the Foundation and supported by the Syria Recovery Trust Fund in the Aleppo countryside.
Al-Bahra emphasized that the Grain Foundation is one of the most crucial projects of the interim government, supported by the Trust Fund. He praised the work of the workers in the foundation and the bakeries, noting the need to continue efforts to provide better services to citizens.
Jumaa Mustafa, the director of the Aleppo branch of the General Grain Foundation, highlighted that the corporation is now overseeing bread distribution. Additionally, efforts are underway to purchase wheat and sell flour to bakeries at reduced prices.
Irfan Al-Dadikhi, Director of the Control Department at the Foundation, stressed the necessity of rehabilitating the grain silos in the Aleppo countryside and the eastern Euphrates region. This is essential for purchasing the largest quantities of locally produced wheat.
Al-Bahra mentioned a recent decision by the Trust Fund to explore practical ways of purchasing wheat from local farmers instead of importing it from abroad. It is noteworthy that the SOC chairs the Board of Directors of the Syria Recovery Trust Fund.
