President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Nasr Al-Hariri, met with the official of Syria affairs in Iraqi Kurdistan Region, Hamid Darbandi, and discussed with him the situation in Syria and the issue of refugees. They also discussed the SOC’s efforts to open the track of transitional governance in accordance with UN Security Council resolution 2254.
The meeting brought together SOC’s Vice-presidents Abdel Hakim Bashar and Ruba Habboush, Secretary General Abdelbaset Abdullatif, Coordinator of the Department of the Foreign Relations Abdulahad Asteipho, members of the political committee Muhammad Yahya Maktabi, Muhammad Salou, Yasser Al-Farhan, SOC’s member Shalal Kaddou, and member of the Foreign Relations Office of the Council and a member of the Syrian Negotiations Commission Ibrahim Berro.
Al-Hariri condemned the terrorist attack that targeted the city of Erbil by militants of the Popular Mobilization Forces coinciding with the attacks on the US embassy in Baghdad.
He also talked about the prominent role of Syrian components, all of which actively took part in the Syrian revolution, stressing the need to continue and develop relations with the Iraqi Kurdistan Region which stood with the Syrian people in their revolution since day one.
Al-Hariri praised the distinguished role that the government of Iraqi Kurdistan Region is playing to support the tens of thousands Syrian refugees fleeing the oppression of the Assad regime, pointing out that this cooperation opens horizons for effective partnerships in the future.
