President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Nasr Al-Hariri, said that the SOC and Syrian Interim Government (SIG) are seeking to secure coronavirus vaccines for the population in the liberated areas.
During his periodic meeting with the local and Arab media, al-Hariri said that around 19,000 coronavirus infections and 293 deaths have so far been recorded in the liberated areas. He pointed out the pandemic poses serious risks to the population in the liberated areas in view of the severe shortages of medical staff and the Assad regime and its allies’ destruction of healthcare facilities.
Al-Hariri stressed that the SOC and SIG are avidly seeking to ensure that vaccines reach all people while prioritizing the elderly and health workers. He indicated that the SOC and SIG have already reached out to the World Health Organization as well as friendly and sisterly states to obtain vaccines.
He talked about the conditions inside the IDP camps in northwestern Syria, noting that winter has been disastrous for the IDP. He said: “We are sparing no effort to convey the voices of the IDP. Conditions inside the IDP camps are catastrophic, which help the spread of the pandemic.” (Source: SOC’s Media Department)
