President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem Al-Meslet, commended the unwavering support of Qatar in condemning the crimes of the Assad regime and backing the Syrian people in their fight for freedom. He emphasized that the regime’s intransigence, procrastination in international forums, and brutal tactics on the ground continue to impede any progress in Syria’s political transition process.
Al-Meslet asserted that the Assad regime’s reliance on a military solution, bloody approach, and hindrance of diplomatic efforts are the primary reasons why brotherly and friendly countries have reached the conclusion that the political transition process in Syria has reached a dead end.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office at Geneva, Hind Abdul Rahman Al-Muftah, expressed that a political solution in Syria has reached a dead-end due to the regime’s lack of seriousness and insistence on using violent and oppressive tactics such as arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, torture, and the use of internationally banned chemical weapons.
During the interactive dialogue with the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria at the 52nd session of the Human Rights Council on Tuesday, Al-Muftah stated that the Assad regime is exploiting the human tragedy of the earthquake to gain political advantages.
She underscored the necessity of a peaceful settlement in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254, which would fulfill the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people.
