President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Salem al-Meslet, stressed the need to rein in Russia’s crimes around the world, confront its aggression against Ukraine, and end the silence about the crimes it is committing in Syria.
Al-Meslet also stressed the importance of not separating the Syrian tragedy from what is happening in Ukraine now, pointing out that the Russian aggression on Syria and the crimes it is committing against civilians is what encouraged Putin to launch a new aggression against Ukraine and threaten all of Europe.
Al-Meslet indicated that a dictator does not need justifications to wage wars. “In Syria, Putin claims that he intervened to defend what he calls a legitimate government, while he invaded Ukraine to bring down a legitimate government that came to power through the ballot box.”
Al-Meslet added that confronting the Russian arrogance must start in Syria through the resumption of real political, military and humanitarian support to the Syrian revolution, considering that this will change the equation and restore stability to Syria, Ukraine and beyond.
Moreover, al-Meslet called on Syrians all over the world to participate in the demonstrations currently taking place in various countries condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine, show solidarity with the Ukrainian people, and convey the voice of the rightful Syrian cause.
