A member of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Hussein al-Raad, has stated that the Hasakah province and the liberated areas east of the Euphrates River are experiencing a significant shortage of drinking water, posing a grave threat to the lives of the residents. He squarely places the blame on the PYD militia.
During an interview on Al-Araby TV channel, al-Raad addressed the scarcity of drinking water and the drought affecting Al-Hasakah province and the liberated areas. He explained that the primary reason for the cutoff of drinking water to the city of Al-Hasakah and the countryside of Ras Al-Ayn is the deliberate act of the PYD militia, which has disconnected electricity supply to the water wells in the Alouk area. This action has resulted in the suspension of water pumping to both the countryside of Ras al-Ayn and the city of Al-Hasakah.
Al-Raad emphasized that the PYD militia is actively preventing water from reaching thousands of families and children, highlighting that such oppressive and discriminatory behaviors are consistent with this particular group’s history.
The Alouk pumping station, situated in the countryside of Ras al-Ayn, stands as the primary and sole source of drinking water for the entire region. This situation is now endangering the lives of the residents, leaving them vulnerable to thirst and the outbreak of diseases and epidemics.
In a recent development, Deir Ezzor tribes dispatched a convoy comprising 100 water tankers, each capable of carrying 100 barrels of water, alongside 10,000 ice cubes, to the people of Al-Hasaka. This solidarity gesture aims to offer assistance and relief to the population grappling with a dire shortage of water resources.
