Abdul Hakim Bashar, vice president of the Syrian Coalition, said that the Assad regime has succeeded in creating terrorism in Syria through the unlimited support it receives from its regional and international allies and also through beguiling the Syrian people’s supposed friends into playing into its hands when set upon tackling the symptoms of the problem of terrorism instead of its roost cause, namely Assad’s dictatorial rule. Fighting ISIS is undoubtedly one of the international community’s duties, but ISIS is just a symptom of the disease represented by the Assad regime.” Bashar stresses that that any military action of this kind cannot achieve its objectives unless it is coincided with a comprehensive political solution to achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people and ensure stability in Syria. A transition to democracy has become extremely pressing in Syria. A transitional governing body with full executive powers in Syria will be the first step towards combating extremism and achieving sustainable peace in the region. (Source: Syrian Coalition)
