The Secretary of the political committee of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Abdul Majeed Barakat, said that while the Iranian people demand the inclusion of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in the list of terrorist organizations, the Assad regime insists on cooperating with these terrorist militias that are destabilizing Syria and the entire region.
Barakat said that the reports about the Iranian Revolutionary Guards intending to establish an air defense system in Syria is no longer a speculation. He pointed out that the latest statements and actions of the commander-in-chief of the terrorist Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Hossein Salami, confirm that there are intentions to increase expansion and cooperation with the Assad regime, especially in the areas of electronic and information warfare.
Barakat pointed out that expanding security, military and information cooperation between the Assad regime and Iran means continuing to spread chaos, destruction and corruption through sectarian militias in Syria and neighboring countries.
Barakat welcomed the new US sanctions on individuals and entities linked to Lebanese Hezbollah militia, Iran’s most prominent tool of the mullahs’ regime in the region.
The US Treasury said in a statement that the sanctions came in response to involvement in “facilitating the financial activities of Hezbollah.” The sanctions targeted Hassan Makled, his two sons, Rayan and Rani, and the exchange company he owned because of their financial relations with “Hezbollah.
The United States regularly imposes sanctions against entities and individuals associated with Hezbollah in order to cut off material and financial support for the militia and undermine its activities. The United States also classifies Hezbollah as a “terrorist organization”.
