Vice President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Abdul Majeed Barakat, has strongly condemned the ongoing crimes committed by the PYD terrorist militia against civilians in areas under its control. He urged the United Nations and international organizations to launch a transparent and immediate investigation into these atrocities in the regions east of the Euphrates, aiming to uncover these crimes and hold accountable the terrorist militias still receiving international support.
In a press statement, Barakat emphasized the barbaric tactics employed by the PYD terrorist militia in the eastern Euphrates areas, affirming its status as an enemy of the Syrian people and an accomplice in the crimes perpetrated against them over the past 13 years.
Barakat underscored the disturbing continuation of practices such as kidnapping and recruiting minors, as well as the torture of civilians to death in prisons, reminiscent of the suffering inflicted upon the Syrian people by the Assad regime and its allied terrorist organizations and militias.
Barakat’s remarks were prompted by a report from the Syrian Network for Human Rights, which revealed the tragic death of Bashar Al-Salama, a young man from the town of Al-Quriya, east of Deir Ezzor, in the prisons of the PYD militia, several years after his arrest.
According to the report, Al-Salama was detained in 2017 in Hasakah at the age of 17, and his family was notified of his death on Monday, February 19, in a detention center, without receiving his body.
The Network emphasized that Al-Salama was in good health at the time of his arrest, suggesting that his death was likely the result of torture and neglect of healthcare.
