Ahmad Jarba, the Syrian Coalition chief, met with the President of Iraqi Kurdistan Massoud Barzani in Erbil. The meeting discussed the political and field situation in Syria. Jarba pointed to the military situation on the ground and to the negative role played by extremist groups linked to al-Qaeda on the course of the revolution and the security of the liberated areas. Jarba stressed the need to restructure the FSA and create the Ministry of Defense in the interim government. Jarba also stressed the importance of the preparation of an appropriate atmosphere for a political solution based on Geneva 1 Communique, and the need to lift the siege of the cities and towns and other demands. Jarba also reviewed the developments of international support and meetings and conferences conducted recently, particularly the latest GCC summit in Kuwait. For his part, Barzani stressed his country’s sympathy with the Syrian people and regret for the suffering as a result of the systematic shelling by Assad’s regime. Barzani also pointed that his country is following closely the situation in Syria, and that it directly affect his country. Barzani pointed to the extremist groups that have infiltrated into the liberated areas in Syria in an attempt to spread chaos and destruction, recalling the recent bombings that took place in Erbil and claimed the lives of dozens of innocent civilians. Barzani also said during the meeting with the Syrian Coalition’s delegation that Geneva 2 is an important conference and that objective conditions must be ensured for its success, and that the lack of these conditions will make it difficult for the conference to achieve positive results or meet the aspirations of the Syrian people. Jarba’s visit to Erbil came at an invitation by Massoud Barzani, president of Iraq’s Kurdistan Region to discuss the overall political and regional issues.
