Vice-President of the Syrian Opposition Coalition (SOC), Abdul Hakim Bashar, condemned the brutal bombing that targeted civilians in Idlib province on Friday, which killed seven civilians, including four children from the same family, and wounding dozens more. He called on the international community to take firm stance towards those who bomb civilians.
Bashar stressed that targeting civilians by airstrikes constitutes a war crime. He said that the international community’s silence on these attacks is unacceptable and can encourage Russia and the Assad regime to commit more crimes as long as the relevant international institutions do not take serious positions regarding the repeated targeting of civilians.
Moreover, Bashar said that remaining silent about these crimes risks undermining the credibility of international institutions which are showing total inaction towards the regime’s massacring of defenseless civilians.
He stressed that denouncing the Assad regime’s atrocious crimes in the liberated areas is a humanitarian, moral duty of the international community, especially the major actors in Syria.
Bashar called for taking measures to rein in the Assad regime and its backers and find new means to enforce a political transition in Syria and to implement the relevant international resolutions.
